TEK9 Mapping Contest for COD4

With a recent surge of interest from the Call of Duty 4 community in new competitive maps, we have decided to host a mapping contest. Starting today, we are inviting all Call of Duty map makers to show us their skills in designing the future competitive maps for Call of Duty 4. In order to produce the best possible maps, the map makers will also need all the feedback they can get from our beloved community. That is why we came up with the following process for official entries:

Timeline

December 1st 2009
Start of the Mapping contest: Contestants are encouraged to create a TEK9 forum thread which includes details of their map, screenshots, downloads and a possibility for the community to give feedback on the progress.
Thread title: [Mapping] MyMapName

February 15th 2010
TEK9 Dedicated Mapping Contest Page is put live and contestants can upload the final versions of their map (no editing allowed after this). The community can start rating the maps and download the final versions.

March 1st 2010
The voting is stopped and the winners are announced.

For those of you who have already made a map and are wondering if you can still enter it the answer is yes! The whole idea behind the mapping contest is to try and find extra maps suitable for competitive play and if there are already such maps out there they are obviously allowed to enter as well. Only the creator of the map can enter his map and we also strongly recommend you give it a good revamp before considering it final. Make sure bugs are fixed and that you are completely satisfied with what you made.

We will also be working on further initiatives to help the competitive Call of Duty 4 community over the coming weeks, including competitions and tournaments, so stay tuned to TEK9!

Intel title sponsor for CC7, CoD4 an option

Over at Crossfire.nu, Stuart "TosspoT" Saw has just revealed the title sponsor for the next edition of the popular Crossfire Challenge series: Intel, world's largest semiconductor chip maker. Intel will be supporting the 'Crossfire Intel Challenge 7', which is set to take place between the 5th and 7th of March (2010) at the WZZRD Gaming Center in Enschede, the Netherlands.

The tournaments currently announced include Enemy Teritory (in a 5vs5 format) and Quake Live. The complete list of tournaments, including an Intel supported new game, will however be made available around Christmas. In addition, the official announcement states that the organisers have decided to delay the decision on whether or not to include Modern Warfare 2 due to competitive difficulties.

When asked about a possible Call of Duty 4 tournament, TosspoT states that "if the community wants it enough, it's there for them", but the organisers are looking for a "legimate show of interest from established lan teams". In case at least 10 teams register for a Call of Duty 4 tournament, a €3,000 should be possible and this will increase once more teams sign-up. In the case that less than 10 teams sign-up before mid January, the tournament will be cancelled and teams will receive a refund.

fnatic over mates in Dreamhack MW2 final

In just 30 minutes from now the Dreamhack Winter 2009 Modern Warfare 2 Grand Final will be going live with the Swedish Multiplay i38 champions Sweden fnatic taking on the Danish mix team Denmark Mates. With the competition being restricted to eight teams, the Modern Warfare 2 tournament at Dreamhack was a small one, featuring the winners of the local qualifiers in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland, together with the top four finishes of yesterday's Dreamhack MW qualifier.

Unlike i38, which used Capture The Flag, Dreamhack hosted a Search & Destroy tournament in a best-of-one single elimination format, much to the dissapointment of some of the attending teams, who got knocked out of the tournament after just one game.

Having qualified for the main tournament after a 13-1 victory over the local Swedish team Phat Guys in yesterday's Dreamhack Qualifier, the Swedes from fnatic (with Fredrik "qLimAxzU" Idh acting as a temporary standin) made their way to the Grand Final with relative ease, defeating the the Finnish team k18 13-2 before claiming a 2-0 win over hevn from Norway.

Not present in Jönköping, Sweden is fnatic's Belgian member, Stevy "Stevy" Verheyen, who was in a severe car accident together with his father just days before the event. According to the official announcement on the fnatic website Stevy and his father are in good health, but "Stevy has got whiplash and concussion, while his father has broken his arm". We would like to wish both Stevy and his father all the best and hope they have a speedy recovery.

The other team to reach the Grand Final is the Danish mixteam of Mates, featuring former members of teams such as Roskilde Ravens, DSRack and Team Boomtown. Having won the local Danish qualifier, Mates were among the eight teams the quality for the main Modern Warfare 2 tournament and made their way to the finals with relative ease, defeating the Dutch based INTELpack4dreamhack 13 to 0 in their first game and taking down pinglorna in two straight maps, 13-9 on invasion and 13-5 on favela.

Statement Mik "Champ" Bødtker: "The tournament has been up and down, but today we played our playoff games and won them both. Thursday we had to wait for the admins to come out and get us so we could be put into the system and get our boyc places, which we got after an hour. I'm looking forward to the final, it's going to be a something huge. The arena is pretty extreme, the place is very big with a lot of seats.

We hope we win, I think we deserve it, fnatic has won way too much! So its time for something new and THE MATES will fucking rock".

The playoff brackets can be found by visiting our Dreamhack coverage page.
