fnatic over mates in Dreamhack MW2 final

In just 30 minutes from now the Dreamhack Winter 2009 Modern Warfare 2 Grand Final will be going live with the Swedish Multiplay i38 champions Sweden fnatic taking on the Danish mix team Denmark Mates. With the competition being restricted to eight teams, the Modern Warfare 2 tournament at Dreamhack was a small one, featuring the winners of the local qualifiers in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland, together with the top four finishes of yesterday's Dreamhack MW qualifier.

Unlike i38, which used Capture The Flag, Dreamhack hosted a Search & Destroy tournament in a best-of-one single elimination format, much to the dissapointment of some of the attending teams, who got knocked out of the tournament after just one game.

Having qualified for the main tournament after a 13-1 victory over the local Swedish team Phat Guys in yesterday's Dreamhack Qualifier, the Swedes from fnatic (with Fredrik "qLimAxzU" Idh acting as a temporary standin) made their way to the Grand Final with relative ease, defeating the the Finnish team k18 13-2 before claiming a 2-0 win over hevn from Norway.

Not present in Jönköping, Sweden is fnatic's Belgian member, Stevy "Stevy" Verheyen, who was in a severe car accident together with his father just days before the event. According to the official announcement on the fnatic website Stevy and his father are in good health, but "Stevy has got whiplash and concussion, while his father has broken his arm". We would like to wish both Stevy and his father all the best and hope they have a speedy recovery.

The other team to reach the Grand Final is the Danish mixteam of Mates, featuring former members of teams such as Roskilde Ravens, DSRack and Team Boomtown. Having won the local Danish qualifier, Mates were among the eight teams the quality for the main Modern Warfare 2 tournament and made their way to the finals with relative ease, defeating the Dutch based INTELpack4dreamhack 13 to 0 in their first game and taking down pinglorna in two straight maps, 13-9 on invasion and 13-5 on favela.

Statement Mik "Champ" Bødtker: "The tournament has been up and down, but today we played our playoff games and won them both. Thursday we had to wait for the admins to come out and get us so we could be put into the system and get our boyc places, which we got after an hour. I'm looking forward to the final, it's going to be a something huge. The arena is pretty extreme, the place is very big with a lot of seats.

We hope we win, I think we deserve it, fnatic has won way too much! So its time for something new and THE MATES will fucking rock".
